A nine-month-old pregnant woman died after an abandoned bridge collapsed at Twifu Mirekukrom in the Twifu Attimokwa District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the deceased was going for antenatal care when the incident occurred.
The bridge links Twifu Mirekukrom and surrounding villages to Twifu Attimokwa, the district capital.
The incident has left residents who share this abandoned bridge in fear as they wonder what will happen next.
They say their movement has become very difficult as they cannot travel on the road.
Chief of Twifu Mirekukrom, Nana Mireku Ababia I, said the abandoned bridge had been a major problem for his people, who have made several complaints about it to the District Chief Executive for Twifu Attimokwa, Robert Agyeman Nyantakyi.
Unfortunately, these complaints have not been attended to.
He said he would mobilize his community members to campaign against the New Patriotic Party for neglecting projects in the area.
