Coronavirus: Gov’t absorbs water bills for the next three months – Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo has announced a three months free water supply for all citizens as measures against the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus intensify.
Addressing the nation on Sunday evening, the President said, “Furthermore, government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for the next three months that is April, May and June”.
The government intervention comes on the back of complains that a greater portion of Ghanaian homes do not have running water, which undermines the World Health Organisation safety protocols of hand-washing under running water.
He said the government was in talks with private water tanker operators to make water available to vulnerable communities.
“All water tankers, publicly and privately owned, are also going to be mobilised to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities,” he added.
The president also ensured the citizenry of stable electricity supply.
Other countries like France and Kenya have also absorbed the payment of utility bills.
