Coronavirus: Owner of luxurious Oxford street apartment pledges to use it as quarantine centre

The owner of the plush apartment on the Osu Oxford street in Accra, Nana Kwame Bediako, has pledged to offer his property to be used as an isolation centre or a hospital.

The Real estate developer also known as ‘Freedom Jacob Caesar’ said his luxurious serviced apartment hotel is up on offer as a safe place for medical personnel should the need arise in the country’s effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

“We are hoping that the disease does not affect more people in Ghana. But should the need arise, we are preparing to work with government and health organisations to utilize No 1 Oxford Street Hotel and Suites as a centre to house victims and/or medical personnel.

“We invested over $50 million to complete No 1 Oxford Street which recently opened in January but I am moved to offer the property to be used for good, to help my people during this critical time,” Mr Bediako said.

The businessman is the founder of the Kwarleyz Group, the parent company which encompasses Wonda World Estates, Petronia City Development, New Africa Construction, and Belfast City & Property Management.

His offer comes after the leader of the Titi-Ofei Ministries withdrew an earlier offer to allow the health authorities to use his 100-bed capacity building as an isolation centre for COVID-19 patients.

Neighbours of Rev. Titi Offei, however, vehemently opposed the move, arguing they were not consulted.

According to the residents, the much-dreaded coronavirus was highly contagious and any move to use that facility as an isolation or quarantine centre could expose them to the virus.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time the real estate developer, Freedom Jacob Caesar, has offered assistance to some Ghanaians during the outbreak of the coronavirus.

A day ahead of the implementation of President Akufo-Addo’s lockdown in parts of the country, the philanthropist together with his team visited some areas in Accra to provide food to the underprivileged.
