COVID-19 charge against Ernesto dropped

Charges against the leader of Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, for breaking coronavirus protocols have been dropped.

“Interestingly, yesterday in court, it came to the fore that they are no longer charging us on the false claim of breaching the COVID-19 protocols under the EI 64.”

“They are going with the false claim that they were not notified of our vigil. Ironically, they presented our notification letter that informed them of the Vigil as part of their documents.”

“Ridiculous. But we know, we are fighting an unjust system, and so such jokes are to be expected. Fighters, I don’t want any of you to be afraid. There is nothing to fear when you stand for the truth,” he said.

Ernesto was arrested and detained at the Accra Central Police Station for holding a vigil at the Black stars square without notifying the police.

The vigil was in honour of the late George Floyd, a black man who was killed by US police officers.

He was subsequently charged with two counts – failing to notify the Police about the vigil and breaching E.I 64.

Ernesto Yeboah was expected to appear in court on July 17 but one of the two charges on him have been dropped barely a week to the due date.
