A driver has shot a man after he was warned over his careless driving near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, theghanareport.com has learnt.

The driver alighted from his private car after being caught in traffic to confront Kwame Amoah, a man he spotted among the various complainers.

In the heat of the argument, the driver slapped Amoah, who also returned the slap.

A brawl ensued at Ayeduase, in the Ashanti Region.

The private KIA saloon driver whose name is unknown got infuriated.

After onlookers intervened, the driver went to his car, pulled a gun and shot Amoah three times in the stomach.

The development attracted several people to the scene who nearly lynched the private car driver in mob action.

On arrival of the police team dispatched to the scene, the mob had gathered around the KIA vehicle and demanded the driver to come out.

Sensing danger, the private car driver also shot himself.

The two bled profusely, and onlookers rushed them to the KNUST Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, Godwin Ahianyo has revealed that the two are in critical condition and have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The police have begun investigations into the incident with the driver, Samson Azanbaga, labelled a suspect.

Eyewitness account

A man who witnessed the incident narrated that it happened in a flash and “I just saw the guy take a gun from his car and then shot Amoah”.

He wondered how an argument could result in gunshots as he emphasised, “the way the guy was driving was not good at all”.

The driver was said to have made attempts to flee but other cars blocked the road to prevent him from leaving the scene until police arrived.
