EC registration exercise: Four NDC agents arrested

Four party agents reportedly belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East constituency in the Central region have been arrested.

The four were arrested for duplicating accreditation cards belonging to the Electoral Commission.

They were arrested at various registration centres in the constituency in the ongoing new voter card exercise.

The District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East Municipality, Micheal Essuman, revealed in an interview with an Accra based Citi FM monitored by the theghanareport.com.

He said the four NDC agents were arrested for duplicating accreditation cards given to help stakeholders in the exercise to register quickly.

The cards are given to media personnel and party agents.

“The standard from the EC was different from the duplicated ones. In fact, they had even signed the signature of the chairperson but I was able to tell straight away that they were duplicate ones.

“Because of issues that had been happening, I think we all need peace so I called the police to come in. The police came and resolved the issues at all the centres.

“You cannot outsmart the system,” he stressed.

Following the turn of events at the centres, Mr Essuman said he has asked the commission to take decisive steps to correct some of these issues.

Earlier, a circuit court in Accra remanded seven persons into police custody for causing disturbance at a centre.

The seven are as follows; Rashid Tubiga, 23; Usman Abdella, 24; Baba Hamisu, 28; Samir Nuru, 32; Mamudu Shaibu, 35; Abu Mohammed, 38; and Musah Awudu, 40.

They were charged with two counts of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace, and obstructing police officers from performing their duty.
