Egypt star Mohamed Salah named African Player of the Year

Mohamed Salah has been named as 2021 African Player of the Year by the International Federation of History and Statistics (IFFHS) IFFHS.

The Egyptian won the prestigious award thanks to his brilliant performance with Liverpool in the year under review.

The IFFHS released a photo on its website displaying Salah receiving the award which comes among several awards conferred by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Salah beat Algerian Riyad Mahrez and Moroccan Hakim Ziyech to the prize.

This comes after Salah ranked seventh in the 2021 Ballon d’Or – an award for the best player in the world.

Earlier in November, Salah also won the English Football Association’s award in northwest England “Ladbrokes North West Football”, for best player in the English Premier League for the 2021 season.

In October, he became the first player in the history of Liverpool to score in nine consecutive matches in all competitions, after scoring two goals in a match between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid that ended two-three for Liverpool, according to the Opta statistics network.

Other winners include Algerian Manchester City player, Riyad Mahrez, who also won the IFFHS’ Best Playmaker award, the Senegalese Chelsea netkeeper, Edouard Mendy, who was named the Best Goalkeeper.

The best coach on the continent went to Pitso Mosimane who manages Egyptian giants Al Ahly, the South African won the award after he led Al Ahly team to win the CAF Champions League, the CAF Super Cup, and the Egypt Cup.
