Eight Dismissed Chiana SHS Students Return To School

The eight dismissed students of Chiana Senior High School in the Upper East Region have been called back to school.

The students who came under the limelight for making derogatory comments about President Akufo-Addo in a viral video will join their colleagues to start the semester.

This comes after Management of the Ghana Education Service directed the School’s administration to call back the girls, following the intervention of the president last week.

The students were seen in a viral video insulting the president for poorly implementing the Free SHS policy which resulted in them going hungry because food items had not been supplied to their school.

GES described the actions of the students as “very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of the conduct generally required of any student in Ghana’s educational system”.

They were outrightly dismissed on January 13, 2023, while serving a suspension punishment since November 15, 2022.

Calls were made for their recall and the students expressed remorse and apologized to the president for their misconduct.

President Akufo-Addo subsequently intervened.

Accordingly, the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum directed Ghana Education Service (GES) to revise its decision.
