Election 2024: Unemployment Benefits, Education Reforms Will Take Centre Stage – Akpaloo

Source The Ghana Report

The leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has promised to provide unemployment benefits to the teeming youth if he secures victory in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In a bid to address the long-standing issue of youth unemployment, Mr Akpaloo expressed his commitment to implement a system that provides financial support to young job seekers.

“We have neglected our young people and instead of bringing them together, understanding their vision, and supporting their vision, we have neglected them. The LPG will do something different, and we are going to make sure that we pay you unemployment benefits and support you with income to sustain you.

“We need to create an environment so that the young people in Ghana can make it and prosper,” he spoke to Accra-based Citi FM, monitored by theghanareport.com.

Under the proposed plan, individuals under 18 would receive child benefits, while those above 18 would be entitled to unemployment benefits.

This dual-pronged approach seeks to provide comprehensive support for young Ghanaians at different stages of their lives.

In addition to his ambitious unemployment benefits promise, Mr Akpaloo outlined his vision for the education sector.

He pledged to maintain the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has significantly expanded access to education across the country.

However, he proposed a distinctive reform by merging junior high schools (JHSs) and senior high schools (SHSs) into unified institutions, thereby transforming them into day schools.
