Europa League Matchday 2 : Performance of Ghanaian players

European Football clubs were in action on Thursday night as the Europa League returned to our screens for the Matchday 2 fixtures.

TGR sports looks at how Ghanaian players performed for their clubs participating in the competition.

 

Kamaldeen Sulemana – Stade Rennes

Highly rated youngster Sulemana was in action for his side Stade Rennes when they played host to Fenerbahce in the Group B fixture.

Sulemana enjoyed 65th minutes of action as his team was held to a 2-2 draw game.

His team currently lead the table with four points following their 2-1 win in their Matchday 1 fixture against AEK Larnaca.

 

Osman Bukari – Red Star Belgrade

In-form Bukari was in action for Serbian giants Red Star Belgrade who lost to Trabzonspor in their Group H Matchday 2 fixture.

Bukari saw 70 minutes of the game but could not stop a 2-1 defeat away to the Turkish side.

His team currently lies bottom of the table without a point after losing the first game by a lone goal against Monaco.

 

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh – Freiburg

Kyereh, who has been struggling for match fitness, made his second start of the season when his team Freiburg made a trip to Greece to face Olympiacos in their second Group G fixture.

Kyereh registered his first goal contribution of the season when he provided an assist as his team recorded a 3-0 victory over the Greek side.

His side tops the group after two wins in the competition, having won their first match 2-1 against Qarabag FK at home.

 

Bernard Tekpetey – Ludogorets

Tekpetey featured for Ludogorets Razgrad when they made a trip to Spain to play Real Betis in a Group C fixture.

The in-form forward’s contribution in the game lasted for 70 minutes but could not prevent a 3-2 defeat by the Spanish team.

His side is currently second on the log with 3 points at the expense of AS Roma, whom they beat 2-1 in the opening group fixtures of the competition.

 

Kwabena Owusu – Qarabag

Striker Owusu was in action for Azerbaijani side Qarabag in their fixture against French side Nantes.

He lasted 88 minutes in the game which paid off as he scored for his side in their 3-0 win to secure their first victory in the competition.

Qarabag lies second in Group G with 3 points after they lost the opening match against German side Freiburg.

 

Malik Abubakari – HJK Helsinki 

Abubakari featured for HJK Helsinki when they came up against Italian side AS Roma in their Group C fixture.

He led his team up front and played the entire duration of the game, which they lost 3-0 away to Roma.

Yet to record a win, his club lies bottom of the table after two rounds of matches.

 

Patrick Kpozo/Salifu Mudasiru – Sherrif Tiraspol 

Defender Kpozo and midfielder Mudasiru played for  Sheriff Tiraspol when they hosted Manchester United in the Europa competition on Thursday.

Kpozo played the entire game at left full-back and produced a decent performance, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Manchester United.

Meanwhile, his teammate Mudasiru, on the other hand, made a brief appearance coming in as a substitute to play nine minutes.

Tiraspol are third on the log after they won their first game against Omonia.

Another Ghanaian teammate, Razak Abalora, was not included in the lineup for the game.

Emmanuel Lomotey – Malmo FF

Malmo FF newly-signed Lomotey warmed the bench for his side in their Group D encounter with St Gilloise, which they lost 3-2.

The 24-year-old is yet to feature for his side in the ongoing competition after missing their first fixture against Braga, which they also lost.

The result from Thursday places his side bottom of Group D with no points.

 

Thomas Partey – Arsenal

Deputy Black Stars captain Partey was not in action last Thursday due to the postponement of  Arsenal’s game against PSV Eindhoven.

The match has been rescheduled to Thursday, 20 October 2022.

He also missed the Matchday 1 fixture in the European second-tier competition due to injury.
