Family in despair after truck ‘mistakenly’ offloads sand unto toddler

The family of a toddler has been left in despair after a truck mistakenly offloaded sand unto their child at Awutu Ahuntem near Bawjiase in the Central Region.

The sad incident which took the life of the one and half-year-old is said to have happened around 6pm on Wednesday, October 13.

The father of the toddler had reportedly requested sand and further directed the driver as to where to offload the sand.

Unknown to the father, his child who was playing in the house had followed him to the said area.

State-owned Graphic reported that after the father had directed the tipper truck driver on where to offload the sand, he came back to the house only to find his child missing.

They formed a search party and combed the vicinity but to no avail.

Some neighbours suggested they check under the heap of sand, only to find the lifeless body trapped beneath the sand.

The driver upon interrogation said he did not see anybody behind him and so he did as instructed by the child’s father.

The father of the deceased also said he was unaware that the boy followed him outside.

Meanwhile, police have deposited the body at the morgue.

The case has since been reported at the Awutu Bawjiase Police Station where an investigation is expected to commence.
