The family of a cashier at the Twumasiwaa General and Specialist Medical Centre in Accra is demanding answers from the facility after the death of their relative.
32-year-old Patience Quaye, who worked at the centre was allegedly found dead in a store room at the facility on Wednesday after she had been missing for days.
The mother of one reportedly went to work on the night of Monday, March 6, 2023, at the facility located at Otinshie in the Adenta Municipality but did not return home.
After failed attempts to reach her, the family reported the issue to the police.
The police, together with the family went to the medical centre on Wednesday, March 8 in search of Patience and discovered her body after breaking into the Administration Room where they smelled an unpleasant odour.
According to the family, the position in which the body was found suggested she might have been strangled.
They also suspect foul play since the decomposing body was found next to the office of the Medical Director and the Out-Patients Department.
On Thursday, the family stormed the facility demanding answers about what happened to their relative
The Presiding Member of the Adenta Municipal Assembly in an interview with GHOne News and monitored by The Ghana Report said “Officers from the Police Headquarters came and we were all here”.
“A CID lady who was passing smelled an odour and she said, do you people have a mortuary here? Then I said, ah, this is the second time a security officer is asking this question, and they said no. Then the lady (CID officer) asked that they open that door, but I think they couldn’t find the key so they called someone to come and break the door. Lo, and behold they found the lady dead,” he narrated.
The police and the management of the medical centre have not yet given a comment on the issue.
