Fire destroys Opera Square building

Source The Ghana Report

A fire outbreak on Monday afternoon has destroyed a two-storey building at Opera Square in Accra.

The fire started at about 4 pm on the first floor of the building, which serves as a wholesale shop for a Chinese company.

Gradually the fire swept through the entire building, engulfing the top floors.

Opera Square also houses various buildings, including the Bank of Africa, GT Bank, and some electrical shops.

The cause of the fire is not known, but firefighters were at the scene on time to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures.

The fire service personnel had a tough time getting water as several buildings impeded access to fire hydrants in the area.

The fire tenders had to drive to areas as far as Osu and Abelemkpe to refill in order to fight the flames.

As of 7:pm, three fire engines and other fire-fighting equipment were at the scene helping to douse the inferno.
