Fire guts shops at Kantamanto market

Source The Ghana Report

Fire has gutted some shops near the railway line at the Kantamanto market, destroying goods worth thousands of cedis.

The incident started around 4:35 am and razed several structures in the enclave.

Firefighters were still seen battling the fire despite exhausting several tanks of water to salvage the situation.

According to eyewitnesses, initial efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service to quench the raging fire did not yield the desired results as they ran out of water in the process.

Affected traders were captured carrying headpans of water to douse the fire themselves because the firefighters had run out of water.

The Fire Service could not ascertain the cause of the fire but said it had been contained in order not to spread to other parts of the market.

No casualty has been recorded.
