A fire outbreak occurred at Kejetia Market in the early hours of Wednesday, February 12, 2025, damaging two commercial shops.
The fire, which started around 3:50 a.m., affected stores selling chemicals, fabrics, and coat linings.
The market’s fire patrol team and security guards acted swiftly, using dry chemical powder extinguishers and water to contain the flames.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived shortly after and took full control of the situation, successfully extinguishing the fire within an hour.
Due to their quick intervention, the fire was prevented from spreading beyond the two affected shops.
Out of 25 shops at risk, 23 were salvaged, preventing a major catastrophe.
This latest incident follows a similar fire outbreak at the market on January 24, 2025.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though the two shops suffered partial damage.
The latest fire outbreak, which occurred late at night, reduced several shops and stalls to ashes, leaving traders devastated.
Eyewitnesses reported that the flames spread rapidly, consuming goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis before firefighters arrived to bring the situation under control.
Many traders, still recovering from last month’s disaster, have been left in shock and frustration as they count their losses.
