The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned the inhumane treatment meted out to a woman by a group in the Upper East Region.

According to the ministry, the adverse consequences of violence on women and girls in relation to their health, psychological and emotional well-being compromise and undermine their development, and this must not be encouraged.

In a press release, the ministry said, “Violence against women and girls is not justified and must not be tolerated no matter where, how and who committed the offence.

“The Ministry strongly condemns this cruel, brutal, and barbaric act meted out to the young lady. This act is a blatant breach of her human rights and dignity and is thus punishable by law”.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested four suspects at Kupelga in the Upper East Region in connection with the viral video.

The suspects, Awizore Amolt, Akolbila Asorwogo, Atibila Aladago and Akolbila Ben, were arrested in a police intelligence operation in the early hours of Tuesday, 13th June 2023, following a preliminary investigation into the said video.

In the viral video, some men were seen stripping the lady naked while others opened her legs wide and took pictures of her private part.

The reason for their action is not known, but the four suspects are currently in police custody and assisting the investigation while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices to face justice.

The police have also assured of working collaboratively with the victim’s family to provide her with psycho-social support.
