Ghana records 10 community infection in two days, as coronavirus cases soar to 204

Ghana, in just two days, has recorded 10 community infections of the novel coronavirus.

Nine cases have been recorded bringing the total number of infections to 204 from an initial 195.

Four out the nine new infections are local transmissions. On March 31, six out of the nine cases was community infection.

According to the Ghana Health Service’s website, the four “have no history of travel nor contact with any confirmed case”.

“Other four (4) have no travel history but are contacts of confirmed cases in Ghana, and one travelled to Ghana from Benin within the past 14 days,” a statement on the health service’s website read.

Medical experts fear increasing community spread will spell doom for the country’s fragile health system.

It added “as at April, 2, 2020, Ghana had recorded 204 cases COVID-19 with five (5) deaths. The number of regions reporting cases remain five (5) (Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Upper West and Eastern). The Greater Accra Region has most of the cases (183) followed by the Northern Region (10), Ashanti Region (9), Upper West Region (1) and Eastern Region (1).

After two-day break, Ghana records coronavirus cases again

Most of the cases are reported from routine / enhanced surveillance activities. Cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89.

On March 31, the country recorded some nine (9) additional cases of coronavirus.

Out of the nine, six (6) of them had no history of travel outside, the Ghana Health Service said.

This means Ghana has 10 community infections in just two days.
