A Ghanaian woman has been killed in a Dallas hospital shooting in the United States of America.

The incident happened at about 11 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where the victim was an employee.

According to a statement issued by the hospital, she was killed with one other colleague inside the “mother/baby” unit.

“The preliminary investigation determined a suspect shot and killed two hospital employees,” the statement said.

It added that “an officer who arrived on the scene confronted and shot the suspect, injuring him. The suspect was detained, stabilised and taken to another local hospital.”

Dallas police said the suspect,  30-year-old Nestor Hernandez, is on parole for aggravated robbery and had “an active ankle monitor.”

He was released from jail in October 2021 and had permission to be at the hospital while his partner gave birth.

Hernandez is currently facing capital murder charges.

Meanwhile, the hospital has sympathised with the victims and their families.

“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at losing two of our beloved team members. Our entire organisation is grieving this unimaginable tragedy.”

“Our prayers are with our lost co-workers and their families, as well as our entire Methodist family. We appreciate the community’s support during this difficult time,” the statement from the health system’s executive leaders said.
