Ghanaians are bias towards Afrobeats – Knii Lante

Source The Ghana Report

Ghanaian Reggae musician and medical practitioner Dr. Knii Lante has shed light on how biased the music industry has been towards other genres.

The renowned musician said industry players pay more attention to feeding the masses with Afrobeat music rather than reggae, dancehall, and other genres.

“…It depends on how much you are fed. I think there is a bias towards Afrobeat and some other genres and reggae has been relegated,” he said.

Giovani concurred saying at some point some of the biggest artists from Ghana were reggae and dance hall musicians but they have switched.

Speaking about the impact he has made with reggae music, Knii Lante said he received a couple of nominations this year thanks to the waves he creates with his songs.

“We’ve dropped about three Reggae songs, Good Self, Something Bad, and now Bestie.

“I think it’s creating a wave because we’ve got some award nominations. We were nominated for 3Music’s Best Reggae Artist of the Year and we’ve also been nominated for the Ghana Naija Music Awards Best Reggae Act and Best Reggae Song category,” he told 3FM

Knii Lante’s career in music started when he featured in fellow reggae musician Blakk Rasta’s song titled “Obama”. He also featured on Micheal Dwamena’s song titled “Ngozi” which won an award for collaboration of the year at the Ghana Music Awards in 2007/2008. He is a composer who plays the piano and guitar.

He has two albums out: Love & Revolution, and True Feelings which featured Queen Ifrica and Cherine Anderson among others. He has also worked with producers Dean Fraser and Mikie Bennett.
