I said things out of concern and not hatred – Zapp Mallet to Afua Asantewaa

Renowned music producer Zapp Mallet has issued a public apology to Afua Asantewaa after facing backlash for comments he made regarding her attempt at the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

In a series of earlier posts on X, Mallet questioned Asantewaa’s suitability for the ambitious quest, suggesting that it exceeded her singing capabilities.

He indicated that such feats were typically reserved for individuals with well-defined singing prowess, expressing concern that Asantewaa might be taking on more than she could handle.

The music producer, who faced a barrage of criticism on social media has however expressed regret and taken to X formerly Twitter to extend apologies.

He clarified that his comments were rooted in concern for Asantewaa and not intended to disparage her attempt and similarly acknowledged that he was unaware of the specific rules governing the singing marathon.

He wrote: “Guys, guys, guys, I’m so, so sorry. I just realized I was judging Afua Asantewaa so hard. Plz forgive me. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 I didn’t know the rules. But I said some of the things out of concern for her. Pls don’t get me wrong. I’m behind her just like every Ghanaian 🙏🙏🙏.”

Afua Asantewaa has currently set her sights on surpassing the current record-holder, Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who achieved a remarkable 105-hour singing marathon in 2012 and she aims to etch her name into the Guinness World Records by exceeding Waghmare’s 102-hour mark.

At present, she has completed over 80 hours of her SingA-thon journey.
