IGP Dampare dresses in mufti to buy roasted plantain

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr George Akuffo Dampare, surprisingly broke from his security detail and went to the roadside to buy roasted plantain.

As the IGP grabbed the wayside food usually bought by the poor in society, it left many people wondering.

The seller of the roasted plantain was left stunned as well. The action by the IGP kept onlookers glued to the scene and chit-chatting whether the Police Chief was a politician or a professional taking the police service to a different level. An IGP who won’t be encapsulated and varies his protocol style yet is effective on the job.

Roasted plantain also called “Kofi Brokeman” is a food bite of society’s poor. It is not a popular meal among epicureans, the gourmet, or persons devoted to refined enjoyment but certainly, those who care about their health would patronize non-fatty foods such as roasted plantain. Roasted Plantain is described by health professionals as a healthy food that keeps cholesterol levels down in the human body.

In the plush suburb of East Legon in Accra, some women have taken to selling roasted plantain at various locations. They roast and sell at the spot where they are positioned. It is reported that women are hired, and set in business by a man of substance. It is to help the women earn a living and to marshal the rich in the neighborhood to patronize a health booster such as roasted plantain.
