Kenya Editors’ Guild mourns death of veteran newscaster Catherine Kasavuli

Long-time journalist and celebrated news anchor Catherine Kasavuli passed on Thursday night after a long battle with cervical cancer.

The media fraternity in Kenya has been paying tribute to Kasavuli since the confirmation of her death at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she was receiving treatment.

On behalf of the Kenya Editors’ Guild (KEG), President Churchill Otieno said the association celebrates the departed Kasavuli for her ‘dedication and contribution’ to journalism in the country.

“We hope that her commitment to professional and excellent delivery of news will continue to challenge and inspire both the current and the next generation of news anchors,” said Otieno

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, and the entire media fraternity,” added KEG President

Until her demise, Kasavuli was a news anchor at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) where she was presenting the Legends Edition that airs every Saturday night on KBC Channel 1.

She previously worked at the public broadcaster as a radio continuity announcer before moving to Kenya Television Network (KTN) where she was amongst the initial set of newscasters at the newly launched first private TV station in the country. She later worked with Royal Media Services as a news anchor at Citizen TV before taking a break from the screens.

The award-winning journalist returned to KBC in 2021 among a group of veteran journalists who made a comeback to the station.
