Kotoko, Ashgold get $350k financial boost for their CAF club campaign

The government has pledged financial packages for the nation’s representatives Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashgold for the upcoming CAF inter-club competitions.

The Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi, revealed the  government’s decision to ease the financial burdens of clubs when they compete in Africa by handing them some financial packages.

According to him, an amount of $350,000 is set to be released for the gesture as was previously done by the government when the same teams represented the country in the previous editions.

“Government will give Asante Kotoko and AshGold $200,000 and $150,000 respectively for their qualifications to play in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup competitions,” he disclosed.

The two teams could receive a further financial boost from the government if they are able to reach the group phase of their respective competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors and The Miners will be representing Ghana in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions respectively.

The two clubs officially announced their participation in the competition next year after they were handed the opportunity by the Ghana FA following the cancellation of the league due to COVID-19.

Both competitions are set to begin in November.
