Kotoko, Hearts to stage continental competitions at Cape Coast Stadium after CAF approval

Ghana’s representatives in Africa next season, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will play their home games at the Cape Coast Stadium after the approval of the Confederations of Africa Football [CAF].

Hearts of Oak, who are MTN FA Cup champions will participate in the CAF Confederations Cup while Kotoko who are the Premier League champions will play in the Champions League.

However, CAF has notified both clubs that they are unable to honor their respective African campaign matches at their traditional home grounds due to the inability of the Ghana Football Association [GFA] to submit a report on the inspections done by the association on these venues.

This means Hearts of Oak will not be able to stage their games at the Accra Sports Stadium while Asante Kotoko will not stage their home games at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Asante Kotoko will face off with Burkinabe side, Rail Club de Kadiogo in the prelims next month.

The Ghanaian champions will play either AS Vita Club or Gaborone FC in the next round if they eliminate the Burkinabe side.

The first leg is scheduled to take place on the weekend of September 9-11, 2022, whereas the second leg comes off on the weekend of September 16-18, 2022.

Hearts of Oak, who have been exempted from their first round of the prelims will lock horns with the winner of the match between AS Douanes of Burkina Faso and Mali’s AS Bamako in the Confederation Cup.
