Firefighters around the globe celebrate their day every 4th of May.
The Day was established in 1999 to honour the lives of five firefighters who died in a wildfire in Victoria, Australia, and to acknowledge the great service and sacrifice of firefighters around the globe.
One sector in every economy which governments must pay keen attention to is the Fire Service.
Most staff of the Fire Service in the line of duty sometimes lose their lives and I wish if that unfortunate incident happens, the government takes up the responsibility of supporting his or her family especially if the deceased is married with children as well.
Every year, Ghana National Fire Service records over five thousand fire outbreaks at homes and workplaces.
For this reason, management of GNFS ensures that they provide constant fire safety tips for citizens to ensure that they are always safe at home and their workplaces, especially at the market, schools and offices.
Some of the safety fire tips that went viral to educate citizens are as follows.
Ghana National Fire Service also organises training for market women to educate them on how to use fire extinguishers and sacks soaked with water to stop fires from escalating to destroy their properties.
Firefighters are one set of professionals who work 24/7 in every country. At any time a fire outbreak occurs, the moment the affected persons reach out to the firefighters, they report at the venue to curb the situation.

Like Susan Murphree said, “Firefighters never die, they just burn forever in the hearts of the people whose lives they saved”, and indeed to our honorable and hardworking living firefighters, may you live long to see the reward of your toils for your nation.
