Mahama courting NDC sympathy to contest 2024

The governing New Patriotic Party says John Mahama’s rejection of the 2020 presidential results is part of an elaborate strategy to contest in 2024.

At a press conference addressed by the NPP’s General Secretary, he said “the purpose of his effusions is to court the sympathy of the NDC to put him up again at their candidate in 2024”.

The 2020 NDC Presidential candidate, Jon Mahama, lost to the incumbent and NPP Presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo by a difference of 517,231 votes.

Mr. Mahama polled 47.30% against the declared winner’s 51.30%, a percentage difference of about 4%.

Since election results were declared last Wednesday, the NDC has impugned fraud and signaled its intention to use legitimate means to challenge the results.

The party has so far indicated it would be going on demonstrations whiles insiders also say the party is gathering evidence to proceed to court.

But according to the NPP, the NDC’s rejection of the results has been the strategy of the NDC all along.

The NPP said that Mahama had “impugned the integrity of the EC since the beginning of the year and signaled his unwillingness to accept the results of the poll. So, we all know that he is playing according to a script”.

John Boadu said as far as the 2020 result is concerned, Nana Akufo-Addo has won “, and no amount of whining can change that”.

The party once again urged Mahama to go to court as the NPP did in 2012 when its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo lost to him.
