Greater Accra regional secretary of the opposition NDC,  is demanding a review of the anti-sexual harassment committees in tertiary institutions.

Theophilus Tetteh Chaie says he does not believe members of the anti-sexual harassment committee must be made up of persons within the same institution.

“I strongly disagree with the fact that majority or all members of the committee should come from the university fraternity. No. I totally disagree. I believe the committee must be independent. Some lecturers tell their colleagues whatever thing they do to their students. Look, there is a brilliant lady who is currently based in the UK. Whiles in Ghana, she couldn’t pass her exams during her four-year study in the university simply because she turned down every proposal from her lecturers. Consistently, these lecturers were referring her,” he explained.

Mr. Tetteh Chaie’s call for a review is coming at a time where the BBC Africa eye’s documentary ‘Sex for Grades’ has dominated discussions in the country.

The one-hour documentary implicated two lecturers at the university of Ghana, who have now been interdicted by management of the school.
