Manhyia Announces The Creation Of Asante Tradition & Cultural Institute
A veritable trailblazer at it again. Asantehene has established the above-named institute to help shape traditional rulers through reorientation and reimmersion in indigenous culture.
This responds to the nagging question of pretenders finding their way into the fold of chieftaincy who then put the cart before the horse, turning things upside down.
Ignorance of customs and sometimes pure acts of the disingenuous have caused dissension and tensions, bringing the institution to disrepute.
Aside from labelled traditionalists, the Asante Tradition and Cultural Institute is open to all members of the public who wish to keep abreast of the cultural ethos of Ashantis and, by extension, keep people conscious of indigenous culture as an important part of African culture.
The institute, therefore, serves as a buffer between pre-existing culture and the onslaught of foreign cultures under the label of globalisation. The latter has the effect of effacing distinct cultures of locales in the overt or covert move to pattern all parts of the globe after a common structure.
The creation of the institute is one more short in the arm of the King of Ashanti Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who, though in tune with aspects of the contemporary world, is mindful, sensitive, and given to the protection of customs and practices initiated by ancestors which remain relevant to lives.
