Minority denounces Bawumia’s vision for Ghana

The Minority in Parliament has criticized the vision of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on his vision for Ghana.

On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, Dr Bawumia outlined his vision for Ghana as he seeks the mandate of Ghanaians to be president.

In his address, he announced policies and measures to spur Ghana’s growth.

He promised a flat rate duty for importers and to abolish the e-levy, emission levy, and taxes on betting.

Dr Bawumia also pledged to govern Ghana with only 50 ministers and deputy ministers.

The Minority caucus has, however, asserted that the Vice President lacks a coherent vision for the country.

Speaking at a caucus meeting, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader said the Vice President has the power to scrap the taxes now.

“It should be noted that our vice president currently has the power to remove any taxes if he so wishes. This is obviously for the simple reason that our vice president is the chairman of the Economic Management Team. He chairs the deliberation of all economic policies at his office. Aside from that he is also a member of the Akufo-Addo cabinet. He is the second commander-in-chief in Akufo-Addo’s cabinet.

“So all of these economic policies President Akufo-Addo has implemented since 2017 were supervised by our Vice President. And it should be noted, that his position has further been strengthened because he is now the leader of the NPP, the governing NPP,” he said.

He added that Dr. Bawumia’s promises are repetitions of proposals made by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama.
