Mobile voice subscriptions drop to 41.4m, as mobile data subscription hits 23.2m

At  the  end  of  August  2021,  the  total  number  of  mobile voice  subscriptions  was  41,486,196, the latest industry figures from the National Communications Authority (NCA) indicate.

This  represents  a  percentage  decrease  of  0.81%  from  August  2021’s  figure  of 41,825,055. The total penetration rate for the month under review was 132.03%.

MTN’s voice  subscriptions  for  the  period was  23,449,452 representing a percentage decrease  of  0.33%  from  July  2021’s  figure  of  23,527,225. MTN’s market share for the month under review was 56.96%.

Vodafone’s  mobile  voice  subscriptions  decreased  from  9,608,090  as  at  the  end  of  July 2021  to  9,413,261  as  at  the  end  of  August  2021. This  represents  a  percentage decrease of  2.03%. Vodafone’s market  share for  August  2021  was  22.86%.

AirtelTigo’s  voice  subscriptions  decreased  from  7,537,514  as  at  the  end  of  July  2021 to  7,461,031  as  of the  end  of  August  2021  indicating  a  percentage  decrease  of  1.01%. Their  market  share  for  the  month  under  review  was  18.12%  as  compared  to  18.16% in  July  2021.

Voice  subscriptions  of  Glo  increased  from  836,198  as  at  the  end  of  July  2021  to 845,326  at  the  end  of  August  2021. With  a  percentage  increase  of  1.09%,  their  total market  share for  the month under review  was 2.05%.

Mobile data subscription hits 23.2m with 74.59% penetration

Meanwhile, with an estimated population of  31,358,190,  the  total  subscriptions of  data  in  Ghana as of the end of August  2021  was  23,291,729, the latest industry figures from the National Communications Authority (NCA) indicate.

The penetration rate for the period stood at 74.59%.

MTN ended the month of August with 15,770,954 mobile data subscriptions. Their market share for the month under review was 67.71%.

The  total  number  of  subscriptions  for  Vodafone’s  mobile  data  in  August  2021  was 3,369,643.  This is reflected in their market share of 14.47%.

AirtelTigo’s mobile data subscriptions for August 2021 was 3,759,247. Their market share for the month was 16.14%.

Glo  recorded  data  subscriber  figures  of  391,885  at  the  end  of  August  2021. This reflects a market share of 1.68%.
