MTN FA Cup: Defending champions Asante Kotoko out, Medeama book semi final spot

Defending Champions, Asante Kotoko have been knocked out of this season’s MTN FA Cup in the quarter-finals stage after losing 5-4 on penalties against Berekum Chelsea.

Kotoko played host to fellow Ghana Premier League side Chelsea at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as the two battled it out for a place in the semis final of the domestic cup competition.

The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes and proceeded to the extra time where Asante Kotoko dominated play but failed to score, sending the game to penalty shoot-outs.

Kotoko’s Wahab Adams missed the crucial kick before Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona converted to take Berekum Chelsea through to the last four.

Medeama Sporting Club also grabbed their spot to the semi-final stage of the FA Cup, defeating a resilient Attram De Visser side 3-2.

Prince Opoku Agyemang came from the bench to score an extra-time penalty kick to break the hearts of the Division One side after they held their nerves, playing out a 2-2 draw over 90 minutes.

The results mean Berekum Chelsea will play Ashanti Gold SC who qualified for the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon when they beat Kintampo Top Talent FC 4-2.

The 2020/21 league champions, Accra Hearts of Oak will come against Medeama SC in the other semis.
