‘My Leaked Audio Became My Greatest Weapon’-Johnson Asiedu Nketia

Newly elected Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, affectionately called General Mosquito has disclosed that his purported leaked audio concerning lack of evidence in the 2020 election petition was what paved way for his victory in the internal elections.

According to him, what some of the party members and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) members meant for evil was turned for good on his behalf looking at the number of delegates who voted for him against his predecessor.

Before the 10th delegates congress on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Accra Sports Stadium, there was leak audio circulating on social media and aired by most media organisations indicating that Mr. Asiedu Nketia claims the NDC in 2020 lacked concrete evidence to fight their election petition in the Supreme Court.

The newly elected chairman of the party believes the audio did more good and opened a gracious door for him than tarnishing his image and that of the party.

“The people thought they will play the audio to destroy my campaign but it was actually a huge endorsement. Some press houses wanted to twist and use it against me and these are anti-NDC. They felt the more they hyped it, it will confirm existing stories from the NPP about the election petition,” he said in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Okay FM.

Making hilarious comments concerning the audio, he noted that he wished he had enough money to pay media houses to continue to air his leaked audio. “Anyway, thank you very much for playing my audio freely without taking any money from me”, he added in a jovial manner.

Background

Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia before the 10th delegate congress secretly addressed some members of the NDC and informed them about the tricks he wanted to use in 2020 to claim victory for the party.

To what was believed to be untrue, General Mosquito alleged that he was not having any single evidence to show to the Judges at the Supreme Court.

He blamed the former chairman of the party, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for the party’s shoddy work in relation to the election petition which failed to support his frivolous schemes.

“When we were doing the collation, the system you (Chairman Ofosu Ampofo) brought saying it is robust and strong, when we collated five Regions; we are told it has crashed. This is the truth. So, when we decided to go to court, we agreed to do manual collation. So, we gathered some people to collect the pick sheets and our Chairman sat on the Collation Committee that he will handle the collation. He went for some University people who did some shoddy work. When the time was up for me to stand in the dock, the results that they gave me if I use it to defend the case, I will be disgraced so we couldn’t send those results to the court”.
