NDC orders former communicator to apologise over attack on Dagbon Radio presenter

The National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Northern Region has asked its former communications officer who allegedly attacked a Dagbon Radio presenter to apologise for his action.

This was revealed by the Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mohammed Abdul-Salam on Thursday, May 4.

Hardi Pagaza reportedly attacked Sadiq Abubakari Gariba while he was hosting a live show in Tamale on Tuesday, May 2, the same day the world marked World Press Freedom Day.

Speaking on the attack, Mr Abdul-Salam said the news came to the leadership of the party in the region as a surprise.

He said Hardi Pagaza was scolded and made to understand that the party will not countenance any attempts by any member or leader to dent its image publicly.

He was, therefore, asked to render an apology to both the presenter and the radio station.

“If we have proven evidence of anybody putting the party’s name in a bad light and bringing the party to the public domain for ridicule, we will not hesitate to apply the full rules and regulations of the party because giving us bad light tarnishes the party’s image, and we will not allow that.”

Mr Abdul-Salam also clarified that Hardi Pagaza is not an executive of the party.

“The conduct is not of our communications officer. This person is not any executive, he contested an internal election and lost, and he is not even a member of our communications team,” he said.

In a viral video, the former Deputy Communication Officer for the NDC, Hardi Pagaza, and another person were captured storming the radio station.

The attackers immediately held the broadcaster by the neck to drag him out of the studio.

The scuffle became intense as the presenter fought off his attackers, with all three leaving the studio after the heated exchange.

It is unclear what led to the altercation, but reports suggest that the Dagbon Radio journalist had criticized the former NDC communicator for talking about the Abudu and Andani conflict on a campaign platform.

Mr Pagaza didn’t take his criticisms kindly and decided to attack him in the studio.

The incident has sparked outrage among Ghanaians, with many calling for the former NDC official to be prosecuted.
