The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has scheduled a solemn night of tributes, hymns and song ministrations in honour of the late the Dr Sherry Hanny Ayittey on November 3, 2023, a week before her burial.
The event will occur at 7 p.m. at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra.
According to the family, the final funeral rites will take place at the forecourt of the State House on November 10, 2023, after which a private burial will be held.
Thanksgiving service will also occur on Sunday, November 12, at the Royal House Chapel in Accra at 9 a.m.
The NDC has described the death of Dr. Sherry Ayittey as a big blow to the party.
Sherry Ayittey was a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She served in several roles within the party and in government, serving as a women’s activist, a minister of state, and a national vice-chairperson.
After the 2008 presidential election, President John Atta Mills appointed her as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology in his government in January 2009.
In January 2013, she was appointed Minister for Health by President John Dramani Mahama, taking over from Alban Bagbin.
Dr Sherry Hanny Ayittey died at age 75 on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
Dr Ayittey is survived by her husband, Negash Jose Taddese, and daughter, Dr Nigist Abena Taddese.
