New women national teams created to give opportunity to players at all categories – GFA

The Director of Communications at the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has explained why the Ghana Football Association decided to create new national teams.

About a month back, The GFA expanded the number of women’s national teams to nine, with the creation of five new categories.

Asante Twum has now revealed that a lot of talents don’t get the opportunity to transition to the senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, hence the decision to create these teams.

“Now, at the moment, we have only three national teams. We have the Black Maidens, which is the U17,” he told Daily Guide Network TV.

“We’ve got Black Princesses, which is the U20, and the Senior National Team, which is the Black Princesses.

“In between these three national teams, we realize that we lose a lot of talent, you know, whilst these players are transitioning from one team to the other.

“So the Executive Council, thinks there is the need for us to begin or start early, which is why we now have a U16 national team.”
