Private legal practitioner and a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has warned parliamentary aspirants who plan on engaging in vote buying as means of attaining constituency seats that the party is not for sale.

According to him, it is wrong for aspirants to engage in multiple forms of vote buying techniques with the intent of luring delegates.

Mr. Otchere-Darko made this comment after news broke that the parliamentary aspirant for Ajumako Enyan-Esiam constituency of the Central Region, Elisha Debrah Odoom brought 11 branded saloon cars to convince delegates to vote for him.

Meanwhile, The Ghana Report has gathered that the campaign tactics however failed as Mr. Debrah Odoom obtained a paltry 67 votes out of 743 votes cast, coming third out of the four candidates who contested.

In a facebook post reacting to the turn of events after the NPP parliamentary primaries Monday morning, Mr. Otchere-Darko said, “NPP is not for sale.”

“It appears to be the message to aspirants whose business is to use money as their main visa to Parliament. If indeed these pictures of Uber vehicles for delegates are true then clearly it did not work,” the post sighted by The Ghana Report reads.

Mr. Otchere-Darko argues that if truly the Ajumako aspirant loves the NPP as shown on Saturday, he should rather donate the vehicle to the constituency.

“If he loves the party that much then please let him show that manifestly by not returning the vehicles to Accra but to let the donation, if legitimately acquired, stay with the constituency, ” he argued.
