Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially entered the race to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 elections as he has picked up nomination forms.

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Fred Oware, accompanied by the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Sammi Awuku, picked up the forms on his behalf on Tuesday, May 30.

After picking up the forms and handing them over to Dr. Bawumia, Fred Oware told the media they were authorized…

The team added that Dr. Bawumia would be ready to communicate with the media after filing the form.

This comes after a group known as the ‘Bawumia Fan Club’ had on Friday, May 26, attempted to pick the forms for Dr. Bawumia to contest for the flagbearer slot of the party.

However, the party said it had no authorization from the vice president’s campaign team to receive the endorsement. Hence the bid fell through.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia on Monday told supporters of the NPP at Hohoe his intention to contest to lead the party in the 2024 elections.

“First of all, we are going to file for the flagbearership, which I’m going to do; win the flagbearership, break the 8, and go to Jubilee House. That is what I’m going to do”, Dr Bawumia said.

The vice president had for months failed to publicly declare his interest in becoming the presidential candidate of the NPP.

Nomination for the presidential primary began on May 26 and is expected to end on June 24, 2023.
Six persons have already picked up forms to contest in the race.
