NPP Primaries: ‘Macho men’ storm Wenchi over results

Macho men have stormed the collation centre of the NPP Primaries at Wenchi in the Bono region.

They are said to be supporters of Albert Ameyaw who claim he had won the party primaries.

But they contend that the results are being manipulated by Prof George Gyan Baffuor, the Minister of Planning.

They are forcing their ways into the collation centre as the police resist the attack.

TV3 report that the ‘machomen’ were in national security apparels.

There is throwing of stones and sticks in the constituency where supporters of Albert Ameyaw and Prof Baffuor are claiming victory.

Prof. Gyan Baffuor has been in Parliament for 16 years.

The constituency is located in the Bono Region and the seat has been held by the NPP’s Prof. Gyan Baffour since 2005.

But in his fifth attempt to hold the seat, he faces four other candidates-  Tina Abrefa-Gyan, Kojo Frempong, Yaw Opoku Atuahene and Albert Ameyaw.

But ahead of the primaries, tension had been brewing in the constituency. Last April, some ‘macho men’ were reported to have harassed supporters of one of the opponents.

Results finally confirmed that the Wenchi MP won the ticket and is set to become a fifth-term MP.

He indicated it will be his last term in parliament.
