NPP Suspends Former Parliamentary Candidate For Misconduct

Source The Ghana Report

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the indefinite suspension of Eunice Lasi, a former parliamentary candidate, for misconduct.

The decision was made by the Constituency Executive Committee (CEC) in accordance with Article 4(4)(2) of the Party’s Constitution, following a recommendation from the Constituency Disciplinary Committee.

The CEC expressed concern over Ms. Lasi’s misconduct on social media and during party-organized activities, either personally or through her agents.

The suspension stems from an incident on May 1, 2023, when the CEC organized a walk as part of a strategy to boost party morale.

However, Ms. Lasi attended the event with her own sound system, intending to disrupt the programme organized by the constituency, which violated Article 3(5) of the Party’s Constitution.

According to the party, her disruptive conduct not only breached her duty to protect party unity but also undermined the party’s decisions and hindered the effective functioning of local party organs.

Despite several requests from the Constituency Chairman Augustus A. Adjaottor and other executives to cease her disruptive behaviour, Ms. Lasi adamantly refused, suggesting that she would continue with her own activities.

This led to a physical altercation between one of her associates and the Constituency Organiser when he attempted to address her misconduct.

The aforementioned actions by Ms. Lasi, as described in Article 4(7) of the Party Constitution, constitute misconduct and provide grounds for sanction.

The grounds for her suspension include violations of the duty to protect party unity (Article 3(5)(1)), abide by and publicly uphold party decisions (Article 3(5)(4)), fully participate in party activities and ensure effective functioning of local party organs (Article 3(5)(6)), engaging in violent, dangerous, or intimidating conduct against party members (Article 4(7)(1)(b)), and creating discord or factionalism within the party (Article 4(7)(1)(f)).
