Nyantakyi blasts European media over negative AFCON reportage
Former CAF vice-president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has slammed some European media outlets and bloggers for deliberately trying to lessen the attractiveness of the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), some European media outfits have incessantly generated bad stories just to destroy the image and hijack the tournament.
In recent times, there were endless reports which emanated from some top media entities in Europe on the cancellation and postponement of the continental showpiece due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Africa is capable of organizing a successful AFCON but I was unhappy when Europe wanted to hijack the tournament,” Nyantakyi said in an interview on Accra based Onua FM.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tourney will start off on Sunday January 9 with host Cameroon coming neck-to-neck with Burkina Faso in the opening match.
Ghana is tied in Group C with Morocco, Gabon and Comoros.
