Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is expected to present the 2020 budget statement and economic policy tomorrow Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

The budget presentation is scheduled to start exactly 10am on the floor of Parliament.

There have been many calls by different organizations, institutions, and other individual groups to factor their outfits in the budget to be presented.

Notable among such calls, is the minority, who have urged the Finance Ministry to ensure 2020’s policy alleviates the plight of Ghanaians.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC), which has also tasked the ministry, to ensure the 2020 budget reflects a robust trade policy that supports growth and presents Ghana with a unique opportunity to implement homegrown policies without the restrictions of the IMF.

According to them, the current trade policy is over-liberalised and inconsistent with the objective of building a strong private sector capable of creating quality employment.

Meanwhile, Ken Ofori-Atta in a series of interviews disclosed that the 2020 budget statement will focus on sustaining gains made over the past three years.

The Minister talked about using the 2020 budget to improve Ghana’s export drive, tax reforms, reviewing tax exemptions, and things that would put the country on a growth strategy and create the required jobs in the country.

The Sector Minister also noted the 2020 budget will ensure the uncompleted roads and ongoing flagship projects are done well.

The first budget of this administration was in 2017 which was themed ‘Sowing the seeds for growth and Jobs’.

In 2018, the Minister also talked about “Putting Ghana Back to work”.

And 2019, the budget was themed ‘A Stronger Economy for Jobs and Prosperity’ and 2020 will now focus on ‘Sustaining gains made over the years’.
