Once Friends, Now Bitter Rivals In The Ayawaso West Wuogon Contest.

For years, they were close friends. On a hopeful day, Fred Nuamah would be fixing the bow tie for his best friend John Dumelo as he await his bride at the altar.

Beaming with smiles, Fred would say, Welcome to the Table of Men, and Cheers to a beautiful home.

However, the light in both eyes will soon dim to be filled with nothing but anger and bitterness.

Today, the duo sit on opposite sides of the same political family, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Both media personalities are fighting for the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat, now occupied by the New Patriotic Party candidate Lydia Alhassan.

Their friendship has withered to a point where they are publicly spitting fire against each other, leaving many to wonder if these two were indeed friends.

Mr. Nuamah, who was Dumelo’s best man when the actor got married in 2019 has refused to step down for his best friend.

The Entrepreneur and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) was the first to announce his bid earlier in February this year. Some wondered if this was an indication that Dumelo would not be contesting for the Ayawaso seat.

Dumelo, however, tweeted on Sunday, February 26, 2023, that “After extensive consultation with my God, my family and our party faithful in Ayawaso West Wuogon. This is the second coming”.

Since the announcement, some have urged the two to find a way to resolve the matter since both young men are promising candidates.

For many, one should succumb to the pressure and step down. Others have posited that once it would be a healthy competition, there is no need for any candidate to step down.

Explaining his reasons for not heeding the call to step down, Mr Nuamah said Dumelo initially had no intention of contesting the Ayawaso seat; rather he eyed another constituency.

“Frankly, it’s late to step down. My brother informed me and a lot of people that he was not going to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency again. He gave me his blessings when I made up my mind to contest.

“Truthfully, I am surprised about his u-turn because it was evident and crystal clear that he was not going for the Ayawaso seat anymore and rather invested in Guan/SALL,” he said.

The award-winning actor has, however, debunked the said statement on United Showbiz.

Meanwhile, the NDC parliamentary primaries have been scheduled for Saturday, May 13.

Fred, who is campaigning on the message, “Uniting and Resourcing the Branches for Victory 2024” is confident of victory.

Dumelo, on the other hand, is coming on a proven track record. He is confident his 37,778 votes against the incumbent, New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Lydia Seyram Alhassan’s 39,851 votes, offer a good chance of a probable win in 2024.

Whatever the outcome of the elections, one thing is certain, deep cracks have already been created.

For John, Fred Nuamah is no longer his friend. He said their long-term friendship came to an abrupt end just a few weeks ago.
