A 22-year-old man has been shot dead while five others have sustained injuries after a clash over a piece of land between some persons in Gomoa Akaman and Awutu Bereku in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The clash occurred Tuesday afternoon at a time a grader was leveling the disputed land.

According to a survivor, some group of persons suspected to be land guards who possessed firearms and other offensive weapons launched an attack on them.

He said the assailants shot at them sporadically which resulted in the death of Edem Turkson leaving five others in critical condition.

The five other persons who sustained gunshot wounds and machete injuries have since been taken to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for treatment.

According to the report, the land on which the incident occurred has been under litigation for years.

But, Nai Kweku Adawu, the Nkosuohene of the Anona family of Awutu Beraku and owner of the land claims, has had a court judgment in his favour and therefore hired the services of the deceased and some others to grade the parcel of land.

He suspects the attackers were sent by the other party in the land litigation.

Some youth of the Gomoa Akraman community, on the other hand, claim they only went to the place peacefully to halt the grading activity.

According to them, it was rather the other party that first launched an attack on them.

Meanwhile, the Awutu Traditional Council is calling on the government to as a matter of urgency find an amicable solution to the boundary disputes in the area.

The case has been reported to the Awutu Bereku police for investigation.
