One of the suspects in the missing Lands Commission staff case has been granted bail by a Kumasi High Court.
The suspect, Justice Appiah, is said to have bought the missing person’s phone from one Yaw Boateng, who claims to have found the phone in a commercial vehicle.
The two insist they do not know the whereabouts of the victim, Rhodaline Amoah Darko, who was reported missing sometime in August 2021.
Counsel for the accused, William Asamoah Sarpong, expressed his excitement after proceedings on Tuesday.
“I applied for bail for my client, and the court graciously agreed to my proposal. It is only the third accused person (Justice Appiah) who was granted bail.
“The third accused person is involved in a lesser offence, so the court in its wisdom saw the need for him to be granted bail because he has been cooperating since its inception,” he said.
He, however, admonished the public to use his client’s case as a lesson and be cautious when buying used items.
“He is being charged with misappropriate receiving, so it is an advice to the public. When you are buying second-hand items, you have to be very careful,” he added.
Meanwhile, the husband of the missing Lands Commission staff, Dr Wilberforce Aggrey, was denied bail again.
The lecturer is before the court on two charges — kidnapping and deception of a public officer.
He is alleged to have played a role in the disappearance of his wife, who was reported missing after she allegedly left home at Gyenyase in Kumasi on 30 August 2021.
The case has been adjourned to 5 April 2022.
