The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has filed fresh charges against the former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) boss, Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

The former PPA boss, also known as AB Adjei has been slapped with eight new charges related to the misuse of public office for personal gain.

The latest charges filed on Wednesday, April 17, would be heard on Monday, April 22, 2024.

The prosecution informed the Accra High Court judge, Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, of the latest development.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor explained that the latest charge sheet seeks a fresh start of the case rather than continuing the previous one.

The prosecution has, however, dropped all charges against Francis Kwaku, brother-in-law of AB Adjei.

Mr AB Adjei’s plea would be taken on Monday while his brother-in-law would be officially discharged the same day.

Earlier facts suggested that Mr AB Adjei improperly and unlawfully conducted and participated in tendering processes in awarding government contracts to Talent Discovery Limited without disclosing that he was a major shareholder of the company.

The SP said as a member of the governing board of PPA, Mr Adjei used the company as a sure bet of winning the public bids and, as the implementor of the decision of the board, unlawfully altered the decision to favour his company.

Within a short period, the SP said Mr Adjei amassed a “fantastic amount” of GH₵41million in his account, the reason he was in court.

According to the prosecution, the accused benefited personally and pecuniarily through the use of public office for profit and influencing the public procurement process to obtain an unfair advantage in favour of Talent Discovery Limited.

The case was referred to the OSP on the back of an audio-visual documentary titled Contracts for Sale by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.
