OSP Probes 150 Cases, Completes Top 3

In a recent report released by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), it has been revealed that the office has completed investigations into three major cases while four others are currently being prosecuted.

Additionally, the OSP has begun a probe into 150 new corruption-related cases.

The report, dated June 30, 2023, stated that the OSP is investigating these cases at various levels of consideration and will publicize them if they fall within the mandate of the office.

This policy is aimed at protecting the privacy of individuals, the business operations of institutions and companies, and to avoid unnecessary stigmatization.

Among the completed cases is the investigation into Charles Bissue, the Secretary to the erstwhile Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
Bissue was cited in an investigative documentary titled “Galamsey Fraud” by Tiger Eye PI. The report stated that the OSP has concluded its investigation into allegations of the use of public office for profit against Bissue.

Another completed case involved allegations of an unnamed wealthy businessman attempting to bribe some members of the majority caucus of Parliament. The OSP expressed gratitude to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament and his staff for their cooperation and assistance during the investigation.

The third completed case focused on suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses in respect to the procurement and award of a contract to Turfsport Ghana Limited by the Gaming Commission of Ghana.

The OSP emphasized that it will issue directives and take further action on these matters in due course.

The report also highlighted that there have been no convictions or acquittals in the cases pending before the criminal courts during the period under review. Currently, four criminal cases are being tried before the courts.

The OSP welcomed collaboration and referrals on suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses from all stakeholders, particularly law enforcement agencies.
