Parliament resumes sitting today

Parliament resumed sittings today, October 31, 2023, after going on recess in August 2023.

This commences the Third Meeting of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

In a letter dated October 11, to notify MPs, the Clerk to Parliament, Cyril. K.O Nsiah said, “In pursuant to the standing order 32(2) of the Parliament of Ghana, I Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah, Clerk to Parliament, hereby notify Hon. Members of Parliament that the third Meeting of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth republic shall commence on Tuesday, 3Ist October 2023 at Ten O’Clock in the forenoon at Parliament House, Accra”.

The House held a total of 33 sittings during the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Among the prominent matters transacted were the Ghana Accreditation Service Bill, 2023; the Narcotics Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023; and Eight Bills that were debated, amended, and passed into law.

These included the Contracts (Amendment) Bill, 2022; Whistle Blower (Amendment) Bill, 2023; Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (abolishing the Death Penalty); Criminal Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (proscribing witchcraft accusation); Armed Forces (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (replacing the Death Penalty with life imprisonment); Wildlife Resources Management Bill, 2022; and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO Bill, 2022.
