#PlayGhana: We are not against foreign music, says Smallgod

Creative arts activist Nana Kwame Appiasei, popularly known as Smallgod, has refuted claims that he is calling for the banning of foreign songs during the festive season in Ghana.

The creative arts industry of Ghana has encouraged music producers and DJs to prioritise local music during the festive season to give it a Ghanaian touch.

The campaign, dubbed #PlayGhana and led by the director of the Creative Arts Agency, Gyankromah Akufo-Addo, and Smallgod is aimed at garnering support for local music and legislation favouring the broadcasting of local content.

In an interview, Smallgod said: “The thing is not about banning foreign music. A lot of people have mistaken our appeal.”

“We didn’t say that. What I said was that we should play any music from any country, but give prominence to Ghanaian music,” Smallgod said. “That’s all I said.”

“Nobody on the day said we should ban foreign music. So, I don’t understand why people have twisted the message,” Smallgod added.
