Police have mounted a search for three suspected armed robbers who killed two police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region on December 15.
The police, in a statement, said a special anti-robbery intelligence led-team has been tasked to track down and arrest the said suspects.
The two officers –Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and Constable Mohhamed Sule– who were on night patrols were both killed by the trio on Wednesday night.
The robbers shot at the tank of the police motorbike and partially burnt Constable Mohammed Sule while Constable Emmanuel Akowuah was shot in the head.
Preliminary investigations established that the suspects attacked a provision shop at gunpoint and succeeded in robbing the victim of GH₵2,000.00.
The two police officers while on their routine patrols unexpectedly appeared at the robbery scene and fired at the suspects, who were attempting to bolt.
Five empty shells of AK 47 ammunition and one empty shell of BB cartridge ammunition were retrieved from the scene, together with the burnt police motorbike to aid in investigations.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has already placed a GH₵50,000 bounty on the head of the suspected robbers.
He made the announcement when he went to the area on Thursday 16 December 2021, to commiserate with the regional police command over the deaths of the two police officers.
Dr. Dampare assured residents that the police will be merciless in apprehending the suspected armed robbers dead or alive.
He further called on the public to volunteer useful information that will lead to the arrest of the suspected robbers.
