Atleast four persons, including three children, have sustained severe injuries after a fire outbreak caused by spilled premix fuel in the Western Region.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 4:00 at Ngyiresia, a fishing community in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis.

An eyewitness who confirmed the incident noted that fishermen in the community had gone to buy premix fuel for fishing and were conveying it to the beach.

However, some of the fuel, stored in a barrel, splashed on the ground.

The fuel came in contact with fire used by fishmongers nearby, resulting in the explosion.

“The drum fell, and the fuel started to spill. Unfortunately, it went to where fishmongers smoke fish in the community. The spilled fuel came into contact with the fire and caught fire. Those who were closer, including children, got badly injured and were rushed to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital for treatment. In all, one adult and three children were affected,” the eyewitness noted in an interview monitored on Connect FM.

Meanwhile, firefighters from the Western Region headquarters of the Ghana National Forest Service(GNFS) have since extinguished the fire.
